Since DACA was first introduced in 2012, it possible for 800,000+ young undocumented immigrants to have the opportunity to work and have an education in the United States without fear of deportation. However, this month, The Trump administration announced that it would get rid of the programme, which granted legal status to dreamers who came to the US illegally when they were children (Mindock). This foolish act could end up costing the economy $200 billion not to mention all the homes that will be lost, jobs that will be lost, and education will be lost. Children and teenagers who do not even speak their parents native language are going to be forced into a country they know nothing about. Declaring the end of DACA is a step backward for our country. It is cruel and unnecessary and will af fect all the families and more of the 800,000+ dreamers. On August 25, 2017, Texas got hit with record-breaking rain and flooding from Hurricane Harvey. On September 5th, a few days after the Harvey the Trump administration announced the end of DACA. There are about 120,000 DACA enrollees in Houston one of them being 19-year-old Diana Platas. Platas stated, Its just like Im losing everything little by little. Platas has been a key in financially supporting her family. Now shes not only recovering after most of her items has been destroyed by the flood but shes also had to tell her family she may have to leave the country. Over and over, she used the word devastated to describe her reaction to the Trump administrations announcement. Eating Disorders and the Media Doctors annually diagnose millions of Americans with eating disorders. Of those diagnosed, ninety percent are women. Most of these women have one of the two most common types of eating disorders: anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa (National Council on Eating Disorders, 2004). People with anorexia nervosa experience heart muscle shrinkage along with slow and irregular heartbeats and eventually heart failure. Along with their heart, their kidney, digestive system and muscles often fail them. The mortality rate of anorexia is twenty percent, which is the highest of any psychiatric disorder. People with bulimia nervosa experience erosion of their teeth, irritation and rips in their throat, stomach,†¦show more content†¦Using this research as a basis, I held a focus group with six high school girls who watched the critically-acclaimed documentary by Jean Kilbourne entitled Still Killing Us Softly. After watching the documentary, this group of girls came to understand the harmful effects of media exposure on adolescents. Teaching adolescents about messages in media is different from what scholars have suggested for preventing eating disorders over the last several decades (Bennett et. al., 2001). Finally, I discuss the implications of my findings. DISORDERED EATING AND THE MEDIA Scholars have continuously tried to understand why people develop eating disorders. Many have tested and proven one prerequisite for certain: having a damaging, negative, self-image (Fisher et. al., 2003; Button, Loan, Davies Barke 1997; Cervera et. al., 2002; Thomas, James Bachmann, 2000; O’Dea Abraham, 2000).
